Detroit Lions agree to contract extensions with EVP/General Manager Brad Holmes and Head Coach Dan Campbell

In an announcement today, the Detroit Lions revealed that both Executive Vice President and General Manager Brad Holmes and Head Coach Dan Campbell have agreed to contract extensions. These extensions are multi-year agreements that bind them to the team until the end of the 2027 season.

Principal Owner and Chair Sheila Hamp expressed excitement about securing Holmes and Campbell for the next four seasons, emphasizing their pivotal roles in rejuvenating the football team and achieving success. She highlighted the importance of their continuity in steering the team towards future triumphs on the field.

Brad Holmes, who joined the Lions before the 2021 season, is credited with revitalizing the team’s roster with a focus on sustained excellence. Known for his talent-spotting prowess, Holmes has handpicked crucial players for the Lions through the draft, including notable selections like Penei Sewell, Alim McNeill, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. His extensive experience in talent evaluation, spanning over 20 years, includes a tenure at the Los Angeles Rams where he rose to become Director of College Scouting. Holmes was recognized as the PFWA NFL Executive of the Year in 2023 for his role in assembling the Lions’ roster that propelled them to the 2023 NFC Championship game.

Dan Campbell, who joined the Lions shortly after Holmes, has worked alongside the GM to instill a winning culture in Detroit. In his inaugural stint as a full-time head coach, Campbell has overseen a significant transformation, guiding the team from a 3-13-1 record in his first season to a remarkable 12-5 record in 2023. Under Campbell’s leadership, the Lions clinched their first NFC North Division title in 2023 and secured their first NFL playoff victory in over three decades. His achievements earned him recognition as an Associated Press Coach of the Year Finalist in 2023.

Additionally, the Lions announced a multi-year extension for Special Assistant to the President/CEO and Chairperson Chris Spielman. Spielman, a revered figure in Lions history, returned to the organization in 2021 and has played a vital role in reinstating a culture of success, drawing from his own experience as a player.

President and CEO Rod Wood commended the collective efforts of Holmes, Campbell, and Spielman, emphasizing their collaborative work in fostering a winning ethos within the organization. He expressed eagerness to continue collaborating with them to realize the sustained success envisioned for the team, its fans, and the city of Detroit.
