Raducanu’s back ailment forces him to miss the Miami Open.

Due to a lower back ailment, Emma Raducanu has withdrew from the Miami Open. Tuesday’s first round matchup saw the 2021 US Open winner taking on Wang Xiyu.

In a tournament statement, Raducanu stated, “I have been feeling lower back pain and at this stage of my return to competition I do not want to risk anything happening.” “I am sad to be leaving Miami since it is a great tournament, but I really tried my best to be ready. I wish the event well.”

After eight months of inactivity in 2023 due to repeated wrist and ankle operations, Raducanu made a comeback to the game in January. She has a 5-5 record after five tournaments, including last week’s third-round run at Indian Wells.

After Viktorija Golubic withdrew from the qualifying event due to a left foot injury, the British player was the second player to leave Miami. Because of this, two unfortunate losers have taken their places: Bernarda Pera, who will face Danielle Collins, and Tamara Korpatsch, who has drawn Viktoriya Tomova in the opening round.

Due to illness, Barbora Krejcikova, the eighteenth seed, also withdrew on Day 1. Greet Minnen, a lucky loser who will play Lesia Tsurenko or Magda Linette in the second round, took the place of the Czech.

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, a qualifier, will now take on Wang. Aleksandra Krunic and Laura Siegemund are two more qualifiers. The winner of their matchup in the first round will take against Jelena Ostapenko, ranked ninth. Along with Clara Tauson, who qualified, the winner will play Caroline Dolehide, who will then play Elena Rybakina, the No. 4 seed and last year’s runner-up.

Nadia Podoroska, a previous semifinalist at Roland Garros, also advanced. She will now play Ashlyn Krueger, with the winner facing No. 3 seed Coco Gauff.
