Brock Badgers goalie signs with NHL’s Edmonton Oilers

Connor Ungar credits the Brock Badgers and Brock University for playing a crucial role in his journey to the National Hockey League (NHL). The first-year Social Sciences student from Calgary signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers on March 18.

Ungar, who helped lead the Badgers to a remarkable season, expressed his deep gratitude to his coaches and teammates, emphasizing the invaluable personal and player development experience he gained at Brock this season.

At 22 years old, Ungar becomes the second Brock goaltender to secure a contract with an NHL team. Former Badger Logan Thompson signed with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020 and has since achieved notable success in the NHL.

Ungar’s achievements were recognized with several national and provincial awards, including U SPORTS and Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Rookie of the Year honors, as well as U SPORTS All-Canadian and OUA West Goaltender of the Year distinctions.

He will begin his journey with the Oilers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Bakersfield, California, with enthusiasm for the opportunities ahead.

Ungar expressed profound gratitude for the chance to embark on this new chapter in his career, highlighting his excitement for what lies ahead.
