Jacksonville Jaguars journalist discloses the requested value for a trade involving Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers.
Brandon Aiyuk, a wide receiver, has been subject to ongoing trade speculation in the NFL offseason, with the Jacksonville Jaguars expressing interest in acquiring him. However, it seems any team aiming to secure him will have to pay a steep price.
Despite the San Francisco 49ers’ desire to retain Aiyuk, they face considerable obstacles in doing so long-term. Aiyuk, a former first-round pick, has established himself as one of the premier wide receivers in the league. As he enters the final year of his contract, he seeks to command top-tier compensation.
Aiyuk’s contract details reveal a $14.124 million salary for the 2024 season, making him a free agent in 2025. While the 49ers value Aiyuk’s skills, he is just one component of their offense. The likes of George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, and Deebo Samuel are also crucial to their success. With impending contract extensions for players like Brock Purdy, the 49ers face tough decisions regarding their roster.
Given the lucrative contracts being signed in free agency, the 49ers may see this as an opportune time to trade Aiyuk and maximize his value. Although the Jaguars are among the interested teams, they appear unwilling to meet San Francisco’s demands.
Reports suggest that the 49ers sought the 17th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and wide receiver Zay Jones in exchange for Aiyuk. However, negotiations stalled, likely due to the high asking price and the necessity of extending Aiyuk’s contract.
Despite not yet making a Pro Bowl appearance, Aiyuk is widely recognized as one of the league’s top wide receivers. Known for his exceptional route-running, he ranked highly in yards per route run and yards per team pass attempt last season.
Aiyuk would have bolstered Jacksonville’s receiving corps significantly, potentially becoming Trevor Lawrence’s primary target. However, given their recent investments in other positions, the likelihood of Aiyuk joining the Jaguars now seems slim.
