The following morning, Blueshirts’ traction was still absent in the nation’s capital.

For heaven’s sake, why can not a decent team in the National Hockey League, like the New York Rangers, just go to sleep and stop getting hounded by every hockey journalist in the Met Area from South Street to the Statue of Liberty?

Was there any reason to get alarmed just because they had lost three in a row?

Yes, indeed!

The events that transpired at Capital One Arena yesterday demonstrate that there is a temporary issue with the Rangers machine that even Adam Fox’s two goals could not resolve. In the third, the Blueshirts trailed 3-2 after missing a two-point jumper.

Skipper Peter Laviolette said, “We were quite tight defensively for the most part. In the third, they had two opportunities and scored on two pucks that came from the side of the net and went into.”

At 6:36 of the third, Nic Dowd, a fourth-string center for the Caps, scored the game-tying goal. At 8:29, T.J. Oshie announced the winner.

As coach Lavvy pointed out, two chances equals two goals, which, in my opinion, does not speak well of Jonathan (Not So) Quick’s goalkeeping. With only fifteen saves, the backup, who has been playing better than the You-Know-Who, began.

And this was against a club without Alex Ovechkin, their leader. Assume Ovie will be back this afternoon and that Igor Shesterkin will be starting in goal for the local team. (An old-fashioned shutout would be one way to demonstrate his numero one status.)
