In a recent move, the Bengals and Panthers effectively exchanged safeties during the free agency period. According to Ian Rapport of NFL Network, Nick Scott has reached an agreement with Carolina after spending the previous season with Cincinnati. This transaction followed the Panthers’ release of Vonn Bell, who then signed a one-year contract with the Bengals nine days later.
Scott, who had a four-season stint with the Rams from 2019 to 2022, had joined the Bengals on a three-year deal last March. During his time with Cincinnati, he appeared in all 17 games, starting in 10, and recorded 57 tackles along with one quarterback hit. However, he was replaced in the starting lineup by rookie Jordan Battle. The Bengals released Scott last week and promptly signed Bell.
Bell, having spent three seasons with the Bengals from 2020 to 2022, played a significant role in the team’s consecutive appearances in the AFC Championship Games. During his tenure, he served as a team captain and accumulated 288 tackles, five interceptions, and 21 passes defensed.
Following his departure from Cincinnati, Bell signed a three-year deal with the Panthers last offseason. Despite still being under contract with the Panthers this year, he was able to sign a league minimum deal with the Bengals. Bell now joins a competitive safety lineup in Cincinnati, alongside recent acquisitions Geno Stone, Dax Hill, Tycen Anderson, and Battle.
