Celtic attacker in talks with EFL club over move, contract up this summer

Watford is currently engaged in discussions with Rocco Vata’s representatives regarding a potential transfer from Celtic, according to a report from the Daily Record.

The Championship club is exploring the possibility of bringing the 18-year-old over at the conclusion of this season. Vata’s contract with Celtic expires this summer, putting the Scottish club at risk of losing him to other suitors.

Reportedly, Watford has initiated contact, but they face competition from clubs like AC Milan, Bologna, Sampdoria, and Como. Despite Celtic offering him a contract extension until 2027, Vata has not committed to it yet.

Watford may view Vata as a prospect to strengthen their attacking options in the long term, given his promising talent and potential in the sport.

Hailing from Glasgow, Vata has been part of Celtic throughout his career so far, progressing through their academy ranks. He has notably excelled in various youth levels and has been a regular for Celtic’s B team in the Lowland League, tallying 30 goals in 58 appearances.

While he has made six appearances and scored one goal for Celtic’s first team, his future with the club, managed by Brendan Rodgers, remains uncertain. Vata faces a significant decision amidst interest from multiple clubs.

A move to Watford could offer him the opportunity to showcase his abilities in English football, with the potential for a future ascent to the Premier League. Alternatively, relocating to Italy, following the path of Lewis Ferguson, who joined Bologna from Aberdeen in 2022, could also prove to be a strategic move for Vata’s career.
