A Bomber player faces scrutiny after an incident triggers off-the-ball controversy, while the Swans hold off a strong challenge from the Dons: Player rankings.

Essendon’s undefeated start to the season came to an end as the Sydney Swans emerged victorious at the SCG in a Saturday night clash, triumphing 19.17 (131) to 15.11 (101).

Sydney’s impressive form from the start of the season carried on as they secured another win on home turf, having previously defeated 2023 top-four finishers Melbourne and Collingwood in their opening matches.

Despite a strong start with a stirring victory over Hawthorn, Essendon faced significant challenges heading into Saturday’s important fixture due to the absence of several key players.

Star midfielder Darcy Parish was sidelined due to a hamstring concern, compounded by Mason Redman’s suspension, Zach Reid’s soft-tissue injury, and Matt Guelfi’s calf problem.

However, Essendon welcomed back fan-favorite ruckman Sam Draper from a groin injury, joining other inclusions Jayden Laverde, Nick Hind, and Ben Hobbs for Round 2.

Corey Warner replaced Robbie Fox (calf) in the Sydney lineup.
