Player Nottingham Forest sold in January now picks up serious injury on debut for new club

Nottingham Forest terminated Richie Laryea’s troubled tenure at the City Ground by selling him back to Toronto FC in January. This move marked the end of his disappointing spell, which began with high hopes but failed to materialize. Laryea, who initially joined Forest in January 2022 under the management of Steve Cooper, primarily served as a backup for the right-back position, occupied by Djed Spence, during their successful promotion campaign.

Despite being with Forest for a relatively short period, the 29-year-old Canadian made only a handful of appearances, with just one start in the final match against Hull City before the playoffs. Following his stint with Forest, Laryea had a loan spell with the Vancouver Whitecaps, where he made 14 appearances and contributed to four goals, although the club opted against signing him permanently.

Toronto FC, Laryea’s former club, welcomed him back on a permanent basis, but his return to familiar surroundings quickly turned sour. In a twist of misfortune, he suffered a serious injury during his debut match against Cincinnati, forcing him out of action for a minimum of three months, as confirmed by the MLS official website.
