The Orioles wrapped up an impressive spring training and are now eagerly anticipating the start of the regular season.
Disregard the win-loss tally. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde emphasized, “It’s going to be zero and zero after today,” pointing out that the regular season is where it truly counts. Despite boasting the highest number of wins among Grapefruit League teams with 23 victories, this unprecedented success in spring training doesn’t overshadow the ultimate goal: winning championships in October. As the Orioles wrap up what has felt like a prolonged spring training due to the eager anticipation for meaningful games, outfielder Austin Hays expressed readiness for opening day.
With the stage nearly set, the Orioles are preparing to head back to Baltimore. Hyde mentioned ongoing roster decisions, particularly regarding the bullpen and bench, although several moves were revealed throughout the day. Infielder Kolten Wong and right-hander Julio Teheran opted for free agency after failing to secure spots on the opening day roster, marking the departure of two veterans who joined on minor league contracts mid-spring. Additionally, right-hander Bryan Baker was sent to the minors, along with lefty Andrew Suárez, both expected to make appearances in the majors later in the season. Later on, right-hander Jonathan Heasley was also optioned.
