Eels suffer another significant injury setback within a day as a key backrower joins Moses in the injured list.

UPDATED: Parramatta has faced another significant setback with a second major injury occurring within a 24-hour period. Following the announcement of halfback Mitchell Moses being sidelined for over two months due to a broken foot, backrower Bryce Cartwright is now also set to miss up to eight weeks with a rib injury, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.

Both players sustained their injuries during the courageous victory over Manly in round three.

The halfback is expected to undergo surgery, prompting the Eels to undergo a rearrangement in their lineup, particularly in their spine.

In light of these injuries, Daejarn Asi, who featured in the squad last year with ten appearances, is likely to be part of coach Brad Arthur’s plans. Asi showcased his skills as a fullback for the Eels in the NSW Cup last weekend, while rookie Ethan Sanders operated as halfback and Brendan Hands, who was demoted from hooker, filled in at five-eighth.

Paul Gallen, speaking on Nine’s 100% Footy on Monday night, suggested potential adjustments involving captain Clint Gutherson, including a shift to five-eighth.

“(Moses) had an outstanding performance (on Sunday), and his absence will be keenly felt,” Gallen remarked.

“There are a couple of options available – Asi has previous experience as a halfback, they could consider moving Gutho to five-eighth, and perhaps explore other alternatives for fullback.”
