Former Celtic Academy Captain Completes Return to Football After 2 Years Out

Sam Wardrop, formerly a Celtic defender who initiated his football journey with the Glasgow giants and led the Under-20s to victory in the Scottish Youth Cup final in 2017, has made a remarkable comeback to the professional football scene following his premature retirement due to injuries.

Initially venturing into the professional realm, Wardrop went on loan to Dumbarton in the Scottish Championship in August 2017, later securing a two-year contract with Dundee United in May 2018. Despite returning briefly to Dumbarton and then moving to Airdrie, his career trajectory was sadly disrupted by injuries, prompting his departure from the game 786 days ago.

Eager to revive his career, Wardrop embarked on a 365-day challenge to re-enter professional football beyond the UK. Surprisingly, within just 120 days of undertaking this challenge, he has accomplished the feat by securing a short-term contract with Ljungskile SK, a Swedish third-tier club.

This transition signifies a significant milestone in Wardrop’s journey back to professional football, underscoring his resilience and unwavering commitment to surmounting the adversities that once threatened to curtail his career prematurely.
