£3m star Rangers ‘rejected’ now tipped for big move to European giants

When constructing a hypothetical starting lineup of players Rangers could have pursued in recent transfer windows, the challenge lies not in filling out the team sheet but rather in deciding whom to exclude, given the numerous missed opportunities associated with the club.

Should one opt for Jarrad Branthwaite and Joseph Okumu in central defense, or perhaps Danilho Doekhi? In central midfield, would Lovro Majer take precedence over Joey Veerman? Then there’s the dilemma of choosing between Andreas Skov Olsen and Albert Gudmundsson to bolster the attacking options.

However, one certainty is that Lewis Ferguson would undoubtedly secure a spot. “Ferguson was turned down by Rangers at the age of 14,” stated Bil McMurdo, the 24-year-old’s agent, in a recent interview with CalcioNapoli24.

Subsequently, Rangers revisited their interest in Ferguson a few years later, but he opted to fulfill his aspirations of playing in Serie A by securing a £3 million transfer to Bologna, diverging from the path of his renowned uncle Barry.

Fast forward two years, while Branthwaite is attracting interest from Manchester United and Veerman anticipates receiving an Eredivisie winners’ medal, Lewis Ferguson has emerged as the driving force behind Bologna’s unexpected journey towards the Champions League.

In fact, the former Aberdeen prodigy has left a lasting impression in Italy, now donning the captain’s armband for Thiago Motta’s side. Such has been his impact that a Juventus legend now openly acknowledges Ferguson’s potential to inject much-needed dynamism into the somewhat sluggish midfield of the Bianconeri.
