Important Kaizer Chiefs pair barred for Cape Town City encounter.

Key Amakhosi Pair Absent for Cape Town City Showdown

The midfield duo of Yusuf Maart and Venezuelan talent Edson Castillo will be sidelined for Amakhosi’s upcoming clash with Cape Town City due to suspension, having accumulated four bookings each this season. Venezuela recently participated in two friendlies in the USA, resulting in a drop in FIFA rankings to 52nd place from 50th. In a recent match against European champions Italy, Edson Castillo featured as a substitute in the 78th minute, with Arsenal midfielder Jorginho providing the winning goal for Genoa striker Mateo Retegui. Castillo has made 18 league appearances for the Glamour Boys this season, while Maart has featured in all 20 league matches. Twenty-two-year-old Samkelo Zwane is expected to step in as a replacement, despite his limited six league appearances this season.

Kaizer Chiefs, currently in seventh place, will face Cape Town City on Saturday, with both teams eager for points to remain competitive for a top-two finish. City has only managed one win in their last eight league matches, while Chiefs are struggling following a recent defeat in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, winning just one of their last six matches.

In head-to-head encounters, City has emerged victorious in five of their last six league meetings against Chiefs, including last season’s final day fixture that saw Chiefs finish 5th and City secure 4th place in the DStv Premiership for the 2022/23 season. City also won the reverse fixture earlier this season and is poised for a double victory over Amakhosi. However, Chiefs did claim victory in the pair’s meeting in the MTN8 in August.
