According to reports, Brock Wright, a restricted free agent for the Lions, has inked an offer sheet with the 49ers.
Kyle’s update at 3:07 p.m. PT reveals that, as per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Wright has agreed to a three-year contract worth $12 million with the San Francisco 49ers.
Ian Rapoport from NFL Network conveyed that Brock Wright, a restricted free agent from the Detroit Lions, has accepted an offer sheet from the San Francisco 49ers.
Detroit now has a five-day window to decide whether to match the offer extended by the Niners. Initially, the Lions had tendered Wright as a restricted free agent at his original round, entailing a one-year contract valued at $2.985 million. Notably, since Wright entered the league as an undrafted player, San Francisco wouldn’t need to forfeit any draft picks as compensation.
Wright’s performance in the 2023 regular season included 13 receptions from 14 targets, one of which resulted in a touchdown. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 259 pounds, the tight end from Notre Dame brings a notable blocking skillset, which aligns with his background as an undrafted free agent.
If the Lions opt not to match the 49ers’ offer, Wright is poised to fill the role previously held by Charlie Woerner. Wright’s utilization would be crucial for his blocking abilities, especially considering his 48 pass-blocking snaps and 193 run-blocking snaps in the 2024 season. Given the Lions’ status as possessing the NFL’s top offensive line, it seems logical for the 49ers, led by Kyle Shanahan, to target Wright for his blocking prowess.
