The Blue Devils kicked off their day with meetings with ESPN personnel, followed by a press conference and an open locker room session with media members present.

Junior players Reigan Richardson and Taina Mair engaged in discussions with Beth Mowins, Debbie Antonelli, and Angel Gray, shedding light on the team dynamics and their journey throughout the 2023-24 season. Head coach Kara Lawson, along with Richardson and Kennedy Brown, took to the podium during the press conference, addressing inquiries regarding the team’s progression, leadership, and preparation for the upcoming matchup against the Huskies.

“In essence, our focus remains consistent,” Lawson remarked. “We aim to pose defensive challenges, forcing opponents into contested shots while minimizing open opportunities. We prioritize controlling the boards and maintaining possession of the ball. Although our ball-handling has been inconsistent in certain games this season, we strive for a consistent, high pace on both ends of the court.”

“I’ve observed significant defensive improvement across the board,” added Brown. “Players are mastering game-specific defensive strategies, studying opponent plays, and adapting accordingly. Additionally, there’s been notable progress in offensive tempo, discerning when to push forward and when to exercise patience based on game situations. This growth has been substantial.”

Seeded seventh with a record of 22-11, Duke is making its 18th appearance in the Sweet 16 and its first under Lawson’s leadership. Meanwhile, UConn, seeded third with a record of 31-5, is participating in its 30th NCAA Regional semifinal in program history.
