Erik ten Hag is effectively out of a job at Manchester United, especially after the Red Devils’ most recent performance in the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City.
The Premier League team was winning easily when the Sky Blues pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the league. If it weren’t for a contentious VAR call, the Championship team would have advanced to face Pep Guardiola’s Man City in the championship game.
It revealed to the world just how bad United’s defense can be at times, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe would not have expected that face to be projected around the world.
Erik ten Hag wants Man United to have more firepower.
Despite the fact that it’s unlikely the Dutchman will still be in his current role when the summer transfer market opens, he has persuaded the new owners to add some fresh talent.
Interestingly, though, he has focused his energies on the other end of the field due to a dearth of goals from players like Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and others.
For Manchester United, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and others haven’t performed well in front of goal.
When questioned about the significance of having a suitable striker in United’s ranks, per Goal, he responded, “I think it would help.”
“You require other choices. In each position, you require double positioning. The left-back and striker positions were two that we were lacking options for this season, and that affected the outcome.
Naturally, the manager cannot be held responsible for all of United’s problems, but when things are not going well, the man on the bench usually gets the blame.
The club’s chances of making it to the Champions League the following season are now slim, and that would have been the absolute minimum needed for Ten Hag’s continued existence even to be taken into consideration when this season ends.
The Dutchman’s requests for players in specific positions are likely to be met with resistance because even an FA Cup Final victory over Man City is unlikely to save his skin.
