Hull City must win this evening to close the gap on the play-offs and set up a grandstand finish to the season

Liam Rosenior, the head coach of Hull City, claims that Coventry City’s incredible comeback against Manchester United shown that everything is achievable if one has belief.
Even though the Sky Blues lost the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon due to penalties, their comeback from a 3-0 deficit to force extra time and their near-victory before VAR disqualified a late goal shows what is possible, and they intend to use that as inspiration.
This evening, the City head coach leads his team to Coventry to face Mark Robins’ team, who are also in the same situation, knowing that only a win will preserve their prospects of earning a play-off spot.
With two games remaining for West Brom and Norwich, respectively, and six points behind City, Rosenior knows his men need to make the most of their current match in order to cut the deficit before the penultimate weekend. City was left feeling hollow after Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Watford, especially considering that West Brom lost and Norwich was held at home by Bristol City. Nevertheless, Rosenior’s team has another opportunity, which they must seize.
Just “believe and win the next game,” was his appeal to fans the night before the journey to the CBS Arena. “Although it’s not quite over yet, let’s reflect on a season when it was. I believe that Coventry’s comeback from a three-nil deficit with exactly twenty-five minutes remaining in an FA Cup semi-final is the ideal illustration of it. It’s the reason we adore football. We have no idea what lies in store.”
For the majority of the final stretch, Norwich appeared to be the team to beat, but West Brom’s bad play has caused them to catch up to the Canaries in terms of points. Rosenior’s players think the Baggies, who travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, can be caught after dropping their previous two games.
“I got corrected today in a team meeting because I told them ‘look, if we’d have won and Norwich had won, it’d be the same situation – nothing’s changed,'” he said. I won’t name the player, but he told me, ‘Well, it’s not strictly true because we’re a point closer to West Brom.'” I adore this type of belief in this group. They won’t give up until it’s really over, and I still think we can accomplish something exceptional if we adopt that mindset.
What good is it to show up if you don’t believe? If we don’t have high goals or aspirations, what good is it to accomplish what we love? We are putting in a ton of effort because we think we can do something truly outstanding.”
