sheffield wednesday, 3 midfielders Sheffield Wednesday should consider amid rival interest in Spurs starlet

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly keen on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Matthew Craig ahead of the summer transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday and Championship rivals Millwall were linked with Spurs youngster Craig amid his impressive stint on loan with League Two side Doncaster Rovers.

Having thrived in his first senior loan, Craig looks destined for a step up next season. However, loans can be unpredictable and with rival interest, the Owls must keep their options open ahead of the summer.

With that said, here are three potential Craig alternatives Sheffield Wednesday should keep in mind.

Joe Hodge – Wolves

21-year-old midfielder Hodge has already spent time at Championship level as he’s currently on loan at QPR. It remains to be seen what Wolves’ plan for him is going forward but another second-tier loan – perhaps with more game time – isn’t out of the question.

The former Manchester City man is a lively presence in the middle and as a box-to-box player, he offers both attacking threat and beneficial defensive traits. He’s certainly one Sheffield Wednesday should keep an eye on this summer.

Lamare Bogarde – Aston Villa

Bogarde has successfully transitioned from centre-back to defensive midfield over his youth career and the Rotterdam-born prospect could be an intriguing option for Sheffield Wednesday to eye.

First-team chances have eluded the former Bristol Rovers loan man at Aston Villa and with his deal at Villa Park up in 2025, perhaps the door would open to a long-term deal if he was to impress on a temporary basis.

Bogarde is a composed figure on the ball, hence his move into midfield, but his time as a centre-back means he offers both versatility and a defensive-minded nature not many others his age possess.

Matt Dibley-Dias – Fulham

Last but not least for Sheffield Wednesday is 19-year-old New Zealand international Dibley-Dias, who would perhaps be a little more of a gamble given his lack of senior experience.

However, the midfielder has thoroughly impressive in youth football for Fulham’s U18s and U21s. For that reason, a step up should be around the corner and there’s no reason why he can’t find swift success on the first-team stage.
