Jamie Allen has praised Viktor Gyokeres after his excellent performances for Sporting Club de Lisbon
Jamie Allen, a midfielder for Coventry City, answered a social media message made by Viktor Gyokeres after he scored a crucial brace against Sporting Clube de Portugal on Sunday.
Prior to the Swede leaving last summer, Gyokeres and Allen were teammates at Coventry.
The Sky Blues’ journey to the play-off final, where the team just lost out on promotion to the Premier League, was made possible in large part by the attacker.
Mark Robins’ team placed fourth in the Championship table thanks to his 21 goals and 10 assists (all numbers sourced from Fbref).
After Luton Town’s final defeat, Gyokeres was sold with just 12 months left on his contract. Gyokeres left the CBS Arena for a deal that was valued at €20 (£17.1) million.

Jamie Allen sends Gyokeres message
Gyokeres shared on social media after his incredible brace against Porto, the championship contender, on Sunday.
In the 87th and 88th minutes, the 25-year-old scored to help Ruben Amorim’s team clinch a crucial draw that kept them five points ahead at the top of the Liga Nos standings.
After the 2-2 outcome, Gyokeres posted on Instagram, saying, “Jobs not finished.”
Many others, including Allen, praised his performance, saying that the former Coventry star was essential to their attempt to reclaim the Portuguese league crown.
“Unreal mate,” responded the midfielder.
Allen joined Coventry in the summer of 2019 after signing a three-year contract, initially from Burton Albion.
Despite having trouble with injuries when he first started playing at the CBS Arena, he has established himself as a regular member of the Robins squad during the past few years.
This season, the 29-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Sky Blues, who just missed out on a play-off spot.
After leaving Coventry, Gyokeres has continued to grow, netting 26 goals and dishing out 10 assists in his debut season in Portugal.
He’s been connected to a high-profile return to English football, which could bring the Championship team up to 15 percent of any possible transfer fee.
Coventry loses to Gyokeres in the play-offs.
After being hired to take Gyokeres’ place in the summer of last year, Ellis Simms and Haji Wright have become indispensable members of the Robins team.
Despite having a sluggish start to his Coventry career, Simms has made 44 appearances in the Championship, scoring 13 goals and dishing out one assist.
For his new team, Wright has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 42 league appearances.
The Sky Blues, who finished fourth in the previous season, failed to qualify for the play-offs despite their efforts to finish in the top six.
With the club presently ranked ninth in the rankings, the Robins will play their final game of the second division season this coming Saturday on May 4 against QPR.
At Coventry, Gyokeres’ absence has been felt.
For Coventry, the summertime penalty shootout loss to Luton Town will always feel like a real what-if scenario.
Gyokeres’ outstanding accomplishments in Portugal demonstrate both his immense talent and what may have been if he had stayed.
In a another universe, Coventry prevailed in the penalty shootout and proceeded to dominate the Premier League.
Even though they didn’t finish in the top six this year, the Sky Blues have handled the loss of such a significant player effectively, and they are headed in the right direction.
