CoventryLive reports on two former favorites of the city looking for new clubs following their release.
Two former Coventry City players who were released by Forest Green Rovers are searching for new clubs.
The League Two team that placed last in the division and was eliminated from the Football League has let go of Fankaty Dabo. The 28-year-old played 34 appearances for FGR in the 2023–24 season. He missed the game-winning penalty for the Sky Blues in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May of last year.
Dabo signed for Forest Green on a free transfer in September after being released by Mark Robins last summer, but he never managed to find a new club despite his desire to play at a higher level. The wing-back, who still harbors strong feelings for Coventry, returned to the national stadium last month to witness his old team defeat Manchester United on penalties in the FA Cup semifinal.
Following his release following relegation, former Coventry captain Richard Keogh has also left the team. In the second half of the season, the 37-year-old defender made 15 appearances for the team after joining on February 1.
The two join Darnell Johnson, Nathan Holland, Alex Gorrin, David Davis, Reece Brown, Mathew Stevens, Jordon Garrick, Sean Robertson, and Luke Daniels.
On their website, Forest Green expressed gratitude to all of the players for their efforts, highlighting Dom Bernard and Matty Stevens in particular for their roles in the club’s 2021–2022 promotion to League One.
