The Daily Record reports that the current idol of Rangers Academy is working out with Philippe Clement’s starting squad.

Page 50 of their Friday edition [May 3] reports that the club’s first-team squad has been training at Auchenhowie with teenage goalie Mason Munn.

Munn gained notoriety recently for what BBC Scotland pundit Richard Foster called a “unbelievable save” that enabled the Gers to hold off Aberdeen 2-1 and win the Scottish Youth Cup.

Jack Butland, the team’s best player, has been linked to leaving Ibrox after just one season of a four-year contract.

Munn, 18, is demonstrating early promise that he might be the solution in the long run, even though there is long-term concern about Clement’s goalkeeping alternatives to ramp up pace this summer.

First of all, it’s obvious that this is early in the process.

The young player for Northern Ireland is just doing what he does best—enjoying his sport.

Following the game, Munn discussed his personal development, noting that his family had traveled to the championship game the year before so he could not participate. For the young man in particular, this was a cornerstone.

The question of when goalies are ready for regular first-team football is always a fascinating one.

Some argue that there is no urgency for their development because they have time on their side and many stoppers continue to play well into their late thirties.

However, as many “keepers” have shown, all it takes for them to succeed is one big play; Munn’s possible precursor Butland, who debuted in the senior EFL at the same age, is a prime example.

At Ibrox, Munn is now regarded as the fourth choice, although Clement may reorganize his group since at least one goalie is anticipated to move on to greener pastures. His final performance could be remembered as the “sliding doors” moment.

Jamie Murphy talks about the Rangers’ prospects of bringing in Fabio Silva on a long-term contract in other team news.
