Kazenga LuaLua, a former winger for Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers, is no longer with Charlton Athletic and can be signed as a free agent.

The winger signed a short-term contract at The Valley after being recruited by Charlton in March. He was reunited with Addicks’ manager, Nathan Jones, whom he had worked under at Luton Town, as a result of the move.

In addition, it was the 33-year-old’s first time back in England; he had been working for Levadiakos in Greece. However, LuaLua has been given permission to leave after making just a few appearances off the bench.

Along with forward Connor Wickham, who Jones had also brought in on a short-term contract, he has left. Additionally, Charlton has stated that Lewis Ward, Jack Payne, Terell Thomas, Diallang Jaiyesimi, Richard Chin, and Michael Hector will all leave when their contracts expire this summer.

Charlton issued the following statement: “We at the club would like to express our gratitude to each and every departing player for their contributions during their tenure and wish them the best of luck in the future.”

LuaLua began his professional career with Newcastle United, and he initially relocated to South Yorkshire after leaving the Magpies. After signing a loan to Doncaster, he made three brief stops with Brighton & Hove Albion.

The winger played more games for the Seagulls than for any other team after signing a permanent contract with them in 2011.
