David Moyes to leave West Ham with ex-Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui set to replace him as manager | Football News | Sky Sports

David Moyes will depart West Ham at the conclusion of the current campaign, the club has confirmed.

In 2019, the former manager of Real Sociedad, Sunderland, Manchester United, Everton, and Real Sociedad made a comeback to oversee West Ham in the Premier League.

The 61-year-old Scot came back to West Ham in December 2019 and led the team to the Europa Conference League title the previous season—the team’s first major championship in an incredible 43 years.

In contrast, West Ham has lost five of its last ten games in all competitions and has only triumphed once. A fourth consecutive season in Europe is also likely to elude Moyes’ team, as the London club is now ranked ninth in the Premier League. In their most recent league encounter, West Ham was defeated 5-0 by Chelsea.

Following the announcement, Moyes stated, “I have enjoyed four and a half brilliant years at West Ham, and the club is in a stronger position than when I returned back in 2019.”

“It has been an incredible journey to have achieved three consecutive seasons in Europe when I joined West Ham for the second time,” Moyes continued. “The club was one place above the relegation zone when I joined.”

“I want to express my gratitude to all of the players for their help over the past four and a half years, as well as for their successes.”

After leaving Wolves in August of last year, former Real Madrid and Spain manager Lopetegui is apparently close to rejoining the West Ham management team as Moyes’ replacement.

“David has been an absolute professional to work with and he will leave with our greatest respect and good wishes – he deserves to be held in the highest esteem for the service he has given to West Ham United, and we wish him every success in the future,” Owner David Sullivan added.

“By making this announcement now, it allows David to get the send-off he deserves from the West Ham supporters and for us all to show our appreciation to him at our final home fixture of the season against Luton Town on Saturday.”
