Four years after becoming a permanent member of Sheffield Wednesday, Windass is one of several players without a contract this summer.
Since then, the 30-year-old striker has made 135 appearances for the Owls and scored 40 goals, which is the penultimate goal of the previous two seasons.
Both goals were both very important; the first was the game-winning goal in the League One play-off final, and the second was the goal that gave Sheffield Wednesday the Championship after their victory against Sunderland on the final day.
After the victory over Sunderland, Wassan shared a mysterious message on social media that appeared to be a hint of a new deal in S6.
He has since disclosed that Danny Rohl, the manager, has a “significant influence” on his decision to remain at Hillsborough for the 2024–2025 season and beyond.
Josh Windass discusses the Sheffield Wednesday contract’s Danny Rohl element.
Windass was questioned about his future when appearing on the Official EFL Podcast with former Owls midfielder David Prutton.
“I don’t really know at this point,” he remarked. My agency and the club are currently in communication for the upcoming years. I have no idea what’s going on with Danny right now, and I’m heading on vacation.
Prutton then questioned Windass on if Rohl’s decision to sign a new deal with Sheffield Wednesday will be influenced by his decision to remain at the club.
Windass responded, “Yeah, I guess so. Of course, I still want to go to the club. Over the past three or four years, we’ve had so much fun, and I’ve felt such a connection.
But to be honest, I think Danny’s a large part of the majority of the boys. We feel like we can do much more next year, in my opinion.
According to the most recent information on Rohl’s future with Sheffield Wednesday, he has had constructive discussions with owner Dejphon Chansiri. These discussions may possibly involve discussing a possible extension for Rohl, whose current contract expires after the 2024–2025 campaign.
Josh Windas’ statement at Sheffield Wednesday confirms one thing.
There is a clear feeling among Sheffield Wednesday supporters at the moment that Chansiri has the better of Rohl’s future.
And because of Rohl’s extraordinary turnaround in the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday’s future appears to be closely tied to his own.
Windass’ remarks confirm that opinion, and keeping Rohl pleased and satisfied for the foreseeable future will benefit the club much and widely.
One of those advantages might be that the team retains a large number of its players who are not under contract, saving them from having to undertake another conventional summer rebuild like Sheffield Wednesday.
After demonstrating in the last three games of the season exactly how important a player he is for Sheffield Wednesday, expect a new contract for Windass to be one of the club’s top priorities this summer.
