Eye-watering Danny Röhl compensation terms revealed amid Sheffield Wednesday future speculationThe Star knows that any team hoping to get Danny Röhl from Sheffield Wednesday would need to pay a substantial compensation fee, and that sum would increase if the club wanted to acquire his coaching staff as well.

In recent weeks, there has been much conjecture over the future of the highly regarded Owls manager. Positive end-of-season discussions are said to have taken place between Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri and the German coach, who met both before and after Wednesday’s victory over Sunderland last weekend.

The Star reported earlier this week that a new deal might be signed and that after the German manager returned from vacation, more talks about the club’s future would likely take place.

Röhl arrived in October and led their incredible survival fight. It is thought that he remains employed by Hillsborough through the end of 2025. According to a story that appeared in the national media earlier this month, Röhl would need to pay a “high compensation fee” in order to depart S6 before the end of that contract. According to more rumors, Hull City and Sunderland, Wednesday Championship rivals, are interested in signing him.

The Star can now confirm that sources indicate the compensation needed to entice the 35-year-old away from Wednesday is estimated to be close to an eye-watering £5 million, which is a high amount for a Championship manager. This amount is nearly twice as much as what would be needed to bring his close-knit coaching staff with him.

Henrik Pedersen, Sal Bibbo, and Sascha Lense, the bulk of Röhl’s coaching staff members who joined the team in 2023–2024, are thought to have the same contract as the Owls head coach. Chris Powell’s current contract expires in a few weeks, but as Powell has stated his want to continue working with Röhl, an extension is anticipated to be agreed eventually.

After a demanding season, a number of Wednesday’s players and staff are currently recuperating overseas. In due course, the club will release information on its retained list. A number of senior players will need to have a number of decisions made.
