Derby County has focused on showing off their Championship muscles for the first time and possibly signing a future star after receiving a promotion from League One.
News about Derby transfers
After a wild season in which a spot in England’s second division wasn’t always assured, the Rams secured automatic promotion. Paul Warne, who was nevertheless promoted, now has the responsibility of keeping Derby in the Championship in order to avoid starting over the following season at zero. Pride Park officials are allegedly already focusing on the summer transfer window in order to prepare for the decrease.
Having said that, the Rams are considering making a play to steal a future gem for Warne. Wayne Veysey of Football Insider claims that Derby is considering a move to capture Thierry Small from Charlton Athletic. If Small departs, the one-year option in his contract will presumably be activated, allowing Derby to demand a fee.
The left-back, who was formerly with Everton, is only 19 years old, and he must decide what to do with an enhanced three-year contract that Charlton has put forth.
A player who hasn’t even reached the pinnacle of his abilities will undoubtedly find it attractive to go from League One to the Championship. Although Small is now valued at approximately £750,000 on Transfermarkt, it is unclear how much Derby would have to pay to acquire him. His price tag would only go up if he signs a new contract at Charlton.
For the right price, though, it would be a transfer worth pursuing because Small’s arrival would provide Louie Sibley plenty of competition at left wing-back or enable the 22-year-old to return to his preferred midfield post in the Championship the following season.
Sibley would be set free by “Great” Small.
Although Small faced difficulties in his early career, especially at Everton and Southampton, he eventually settled at Charlton and caught Derby’s attention. By completing his relocation to Pride Park and getting closer to a Premier League comeback, he might potentially step up even more. This would also, and maybe most importantly, liberate Sibley.
With Small joining the team, Sibley—who has been playing wing-back this season—will have the opportunity to establish himself in the Rams’ midfield and grow into a vital member of Warne’s team at his preferred position.
But with Charlton’s rumored offer on the table and manager Nathan Jones appearing to be a fan after telling the Daily Echo: “What we won’t do is get rid of good players,” it won’t be an easy move. Good players are protected, and Thierry is one of them; he will be taken care of.
“I’m really happy with his impact thus far.” Of course, I’m familiar with Southampton’s Thierry. After making a big-money move to Southampton as a teenager, he went through a difficult period.
There are moments when you reach a slight plateau before moving forward once again. That should be it for Thierry. He is an amazing young man and a superb athlete. He may use a little edge work, but most teenagers do.”
