Ex-Rangers goalkeeper Rodgers targets

Journalist Stephen McGowan, who is well-known to have strong ties to Celtic, and The Daily Mail have been updating readers on the club’s transfer activity.

The journalist specifically states that Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are reportedly interested in Motherwell’s Liam Kelly ahead of the summer transfer season.

The 28-year-old Scotland international goalie, who has been at Fir Park since January 2021, is thought to be among the best in the Scottish premier league.

Yet, Liam Kelly, a graduate of the Rangers academy, was the goalkeeper who was groomed at Rangers.

Kelly was sent out on loan to East Fife and Livingston without ever having appeared in a game for the Ibrox club. In 2018, he was finally granted a permanent transfer to the Lions.

The goalie has since played for Queens Park Rangers before relocating permanently to Motherwell in the summer of 2021.

As Joe Hart prepares to retire, Celtic are rumored to be mulling a move for Liam Kelly, who is out of contract in the summer.

Kelly had a purpose for leaving Ibrox.

If Liam Kelly becomes available, the Parkhead will follow in the footsteps of Liam Burt, who went to Celtic Park from the Ibrox academy.

And everyone is aware of the outcome.

Players that have affinities for the opposite side of Glasgow are always up against it when considering moving to an Old Firm team, so it’s a pretty perplexing decision.

Liam Kelly had a motive for not making it to the Rangers as well.

With Jack Butland, the nation’s greatest goalkeeper by a wide margin, starting for the Ibrox side, the Rangers’ number two is also incredibly gifted.

Although Robby McCrorie was usually picked ahead of Liam Kelly in the Rangers junior system, the stopper’s opportunities are becoming fewer and farther between.

Rangers, meanwhile, is moving forward with their own transfer chances and is in “advanced talks” to bring in a £3 million summer addition early.
