If I'd known…' – Sheffield Wednesday boss jokes about 'crazy' ChampionshipDanny Röhl, the manager of Sheffield Wednesday, made a joke about how he might not have attended if he had understood how absurd the Championship was.

After joining the team in October, the German performed admirably at Hillsborough, setting the Owls up for midtable form the entire season and culminating in a run of results that made promotion difficult.

Though they gained points, Wednesday couldn’t escape the bottom three until the very last minute. Ultimately, they were able to stay up, having only missed 22 days of the season due to injuries.

He grinned and continued, “To be honest, I wouldn’t have come if I had known this before then.” “But no, that league is insane. Everyone can defeat everyone in the Championship, in my opinion. You can see that you need to score points frequently, yet even when we scored points incessantly, we didn’t cross the line because other teams prevailed.

“This league is difficult. You may talk about the Premier League, in my opinion, but the Championship presents perhaps the closest challenge possible worldwide.

“I want to say thank you to our chairman because he is the guy who gave me the opportunity to take my first job as a manager and we should not forget this,” he added in his brief thank you to club owner Dejphon Chansiri. In the six months since I’ve been here, the club has shown unity, for which we should all be pleased. Thank you for everything.
