What Sky Sports deal means as Portsmouth land multi-million pound cash boost along with Sunderland, Sheff Wed, QPR, Cardiff City & Co in Championship

However, there will also be more noon kickoffs and worry of having to travel great distances at strange hours to support the Blues in the Championship.

There has been a lot of discussion over how much second-tier football will be televised going ahead, with every Championship team assured of at least 24 broadcasts.

This will be added to the more than 1,000 EFL games that are televised each season, with Sky Sports hosting a major event on the first weekend of the 2024–25 campaign.

As the season begins, every EFL game will be televised, according to an announcement made earlier.

Fans’ attention will be drawn to Pompey’s increased financial resources, too, with the announcement of new domestic and foreign rights this year.

The £935 million television contract is divided over five years, with a significant bias toward Championship teams.

Compared to the previous agreement, which was divided roughly into 70% for the Championship, 18% for League One, and 12% for League Two, the new pact represents a £300 million increase.

The EFL has said that the elevated element will be distributed as follows: 80% to the Championship, 12% to League One, and 8% to League Two.

Accordingly, under the new domestic agreement, each Championship team will earn approximately £5.7 million annually.

In the meantime, the EFL said this year that Pitch overseas and Relevant Sports will handle overseas distribution as part of a £147.7 million, four-year arrangement.

There are worries that the huge financial boost Pompey will receive upon their four-year return to the Championship may come at the expense of inconvenience for fans who must travel.

Jonathan Licht, general director of Sky Sports, is certain that fans are taken into account when determining the start time of games.

“We take the responsibility seriously, despite what some people may believe,” he stated.

We can state with confidence that we choose matches promptly and that there is a gap in communication between us and the police, safety officials, and other competitors. That is taking longer and growing more complicated. We’ll do our best to notify fans as much as we can.
