Martavis Bryant, who was cut by the Cowboys last week, will train with a team in the division. Aaron Wilson of Houston’s KPRC2 reports that the veteran wide receiver will be worked out by the Commanders tomorrow.

When the wide receiver was brought back into the fold by the NFL in November of last year, his five-year suspension came to an end. After that, he became well-liked by the Cowboys practice squad, but he was never added to the major league roster. He joined the team in January by signing a reserve/futures deal, however he was cut soon after the Cowboys brought three rookies to the position.

The wideout was chosen in the fourth round of the 2014 draft and immediately made an impact with the Steelers. During his first two seasons in the NFL, he caught 14 touchdown passes (plus two more in the playoffs) before missing the whole 2016 season due to his second career ban. After he returned in 2017, he had more than 600 yards, and the Steelers traded him to the Raiders for a third-round pick.

With Oakland, he participated in eight games prior to receiving his most recent ban in 2018. In the years between that first suspension and his effort to return with the Cowboys in 2023, Bryant played in a few different leagues, including the CFL and XFL.

Although Dan Quinn, the head coach of the Commanders and a former defensive coordinator for the Cowboys, did not work directly with Bryant while in Dallas, he did have a close examination of him at Cowboys practice. The 32-year-old would struggle to break into the active roster even if he were to catch on with the Commanders. Nevertheless, the team’s depth behind Terry McLaurin is lacking in experience. Though Luke McCaffrey, a third-round rookie, and former first-round pick Jahan Dotson will probably grab the first two slots, Bryant may have to contend with Dax Milne, Dyami Brown, Jamison Crowder, and Olamide Zaccheaus for a spot.
