The Joe Dumars Trophy is awarded to the NBA player who best exemplifies sportsmanship on the court.
Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers has won the 2023-24 NBA Sportsmanship Award, earning him the Joe Dumars Trophy. Maxey has won the award for the first time and is the 76ers’ second winner, following Eric Snow (1999-00).
The NBA Sportsmanship Award, given annually since the 1995-96 season, recognizes a player who best exemplifies the qualities of sportsmanship on the court. The trophy is named after Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer and two-time NBA champion Joe Dumars, who received the first NBA Sportsmanship Award and spent his entire 14-year career with the Detroit Pistons.
Each NBA team nominated one player for the 2023-24 NBA Sportsmanship Award. A panel of league officials chose one finalist from each of the NBA’s six divisions from among the 30 franchise nominations. Current NBA players choose the winner from a field of six finalists. Maxey, a four-year NBA veteran, received the Kia NBA Most Improved Player Award and his first NBA All-Star selection for his efforts during the 2023-24 regular season.
