Georgia Transfer Frank Anselem-Ibe Commits to Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville men’s basketball team has filled their final open scholarship for the 2024-25 season. Former Georgia center Frank Anselem-Ibe announced Tuesday night that he has committed to the Cardinals. He chose Louisville over NC State, Georgia Tech, and Wisconsin, becoming their 12th transfer portal commitment this cycle.

The 6-foot-10, 215-pound center played in 29 of Georgia’s 37 games last season, starting in three. He averaged 2.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game, with a 62.8 percent shooting accuracy. Anselem-Ibe’s performance improved during Georgia’s NIT run, where he averaged 5.5 points and 6.3 rebounds on 62.5 percent shooting over four games, including a double-double against Ohio State. Georgia lost to Seton Hall in the semifinals.

Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Anselem-Ibe began his career at Syracuse, spending two seasons there before transferring to Georgia for the next two seasons. Across 96 appearances and 15 starts at both schools, he accumulated 254 points, 290 rebounds, 59 blocks, and 30 assists.

Louisville has made significant moves to bolster their front court recently. They secured commitments from former USF forward/center Kasean Pryor, IMG Academy forward Khani Rooths, and BYU forward Noah Waterman. Prior to these additions, the Cardinals had only two true big men for the next season—BYU center Aly Khalifa and Charleston center James Scott—though Khalifa will redshirt to recover from a knee injury.

After a challenging 2023-24 season that led to the dismissal of second-year head coach Kenny Payne, Louisville’s roster saw a complete overhaul. All 12 scholarship players entered the portal, with only walk-on guard Aidan McCool expected to return.

New head coach Pat Kelsey, hired on March 28, has effectively utilized the transfer portal. Scott and guard Reyne Smith are following Kelsey from Charleston, while Khalifa, Pryor, Waterman, James Madison guard/forward Terrence Edwards Jr., Colorado guard J’Vonne Hadley, Washington guard Koren Johnson, Long Beach State forward Aboubacar Traore, and Wisconsin guard Chucky Hepburn are also joining the team via the portal.

Additionally, Charleston guard Kobe Rodgers committed but will redshirt the 2024-25 season alongside Khalifa. Rooths is the only newcomer from the high school ranks.
