ARLINGTON — Oklahoma ace Braden Davis delivered his first complete-game shutout in the Big 12 Tournament, leading the top-seeded Sooners to a 4-0 victory over No. 9 seed TCU on Wednesday.
Davis becomes the second Sooner, alongside Jon Gray (2013), to achieve a complete-game shutout in the tournament. This feat marks only the seventh in the tournament’s history, with the last one occurring in 2015.
Davis allowed just four hits and struck out nine on a career-high 120 pitches, outperforming Big 12 pitcher of the year Payton Tolle. This was Oklahoma’s first complete-game shutout since Braden Carmichael shut out Oklahoma State last season.
With a 35-18 record, Oklahoma advances to the winner’s bracket to face Kansas on Thursday for their first matchup of the season.
TCU (32-20) has lost all four games against Oklahoma this season, being outscored 27-12. The Horned Frogs will face Kansas State in an elimination game on Thursday.
Jackson Nicklaus drove in the first run in the fourth inning with an RBI double to center field, followed by Kendall Pettis’ single that brought Nicklaus home.
Anthony Mackenzie hit a home run in the sixth inning, followed by another solo shot from Nicklaus on the next pitch.
Pettis also made a remarkable diving catch in left field to keep the game scoreless in the first inning.
