Although reports of UNC basketball’s interest in Gonzaga College High School (D.C.) guard Derek Dixon are recent, his announced offer from the Tar Heels on Monday night was fitting given his impressive performance in front of head coach Hubert Davis during last weekend’s Nike EYBL action in Indianapolis.
Dixon, ranked No. 64 overall on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, is positioned lower than most of UNC’s 2025 targets. However, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound four-star seems deserving of a rankings boost, averaging 16.0 points per game for a 9-1 Team Takeover squad through three EYBL sessions.
Dixon expressed genuine honor at receiving an offer from such a prestigious program.
“Playing for a storied program like UNC would be great,” the skilled scorer and facilitator told Zagsblog’s Charlie Parent. “They play in a great conference and are historically one of the best teams in the country year after year, so being recruited by a school like that is awesome.”
His offer list includes other ACC schools like Virginia, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Miami, with only Virginia and Pitt having hosted him for visits.
Derek Dixon is one of four 2025 four-stars who received offers from UNC during their Monday offer spree. The others are Harvard-Westlake School (Calif.) forward Nikolas Khamenia, Great Crossing High School (Ky.) center Malachi Moreno, and Greenfield-Central School (Ind.) guard Braylon Mullins.
