Kansas City Royals’ Kyle Isbel exits game after being hit in the face by a foul ball
Kansas City Royals outfielder Kyle Isbel was involved in a frightening incident during Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
In the seventh inning, Isbel faced Rays reliever Garrett Cleavinger in a crucial situation. The bases were loaded with no outs, and the score was tied 2-2.
As Isbel stepped up to the plate and swung at the first-pitch sinker, he made contact, but the foul tip ricocheted and struck him in the face and helmet.
Royals manager Matt Quatraro and medical staff quickly rushed to home plate. Isbel was handed a towel as he was assessed on the field.
After a short while, Isbel was escorted to the clubhouse. The Royals substituted Dairon Blanco to pinch hit for him.
Blanco hit a sacrifice fly, giving the Royals a 3-2 lead.
