Miami Marlins Update: Otto, Lindor, and Jazz on a Hot Streak

Could the Miami Marlins have a “Cinderella” season this year? It might be challenging after their losses to the San Diego Padres. However, the Fish’s division rivals are dealing with injuries, with more expected. Ready to dive into some hot streaks, cold streaks, and injuries?

Here are some notable updates on Miami Marlins and division rival players.

Starting with some unfortunate news: after the Atlanta Braves lost RF Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season, the New York Mets now face the absence of SS Francisco Lindor for at least a day or two due to a swollen finger. Lindor, who is having a below-average season by his standards, is batting .210/.277/.374 with 8 home runs and 26 RBI in 54 games and 219 AB. His BABIP is a low .224 compared to his career mark of .289, and his Exit Velocity has decreased from 91.2 last season to 89.6 this season. Hopefully, he’ll recover in a few days. While I can’t root for him to improve his play, I do hope he stays healthy.

Miami Marlins second baseman Otto Lopez is currently in a slump, batting .216 with no home runs and 8 RBI over the past two weeks. This week, he has a .125 batting average with no home runs and 2 RBI. While it’s hopeful he can turn things around, his lack of a strong track record makes it uncertain. Overall, Lopez is batting .260/.295/.425 this season.

On the positive side, Miami Marlins CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. is on a hot streak, hitting .292 with 3 home runs, 6 RBI, and 2 stolen bases over the past two weeks. This week, he’s batting .304 with 2 home runs, 3 RBI, and a stolen base. He’s thriving as the Fish’s new lead-off hitter, and hopefully, his performance and health continue to hold up.

Lastly, Marlins DH Bryan De La Cruz, a breakout hitter, has been struggling, batting .244 with a home run and 3 RBI over the past two weeks, and .174 this week. Let’s hope he can turn things around soon.
