Despite the Kansas City Royals’ 7-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Thursday afternoon, Bobby Witt Jr. delivered a strong performance.

The shortstop went 2-for-5 in the game, hitting a double and tallying three RBI. Witt currently tops the MLB leaderboard in multi-hit games, as reported by Baseball Reference.

The 23-year-old stands out as a remarkable talent, poised to secure his debut All-Star Game appearance later this summer. Currently boasting a batting average of .309, along with nine home runs, 40 RBI, and 16 stolen bases, he holds an impressive OPS of .911 for the season. Serving as a pivotal figure, he spearheads the Royals’ efforts to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

Despite facing stiff competition, with a record of 35-23 placing them second in the American League Central, the Royals are positioned to contend for both a division title and a wild card spot throughout the remainder of the year.

What’s particularly noteworthy is Witt Jr.’s consistent performance, especially compared to other young stars who have struggled to find their rhythm this season. For instance, Julio Rodriguez of the Mariners has an OPS of just .652, while Corbin Carroll of the Diamondbacks is batting a mere .191 with an OPS of .562.

Looking ahead, the Royals are set to kick off a new series on Friday night as they welcome the San Diego Padres to Kauffman Stadium.
