Ocon received a five-place grid penalty for the Montreal F1 race due to causing a first-lap collision with Gasly, which also forced him to retire from the Monaco GP due to damage.
Team principal Bruno Famin hinted at “consequences” for Ocon’s move on Gasly, sparking speculation about his participation in Canada.
In a detailed social media statement on Friday, Ocon said, “Much has been said following the Monaco Grand Prix. Despite many supportive messages, I am deeply saddened by the abuse and negativity online about my character, driving, and career.
“Thanks to the hard work, support, and sacrifices of many people, I’ve competed in over 140 Grands Prix since my debut in 2016. I’ve always been a tough competitor and, like most drivers, have had my share of incidents.
“I’ve been fortunate to race alongside talented and experienced teammates, including race winners Daniel [Ricciardo], Checo [Sergio Perez], Pierre, and double champion Fernando [Alonso].
“As teammates, we often started races very close to each other, leading to tough battles on track and occasionally some contact.”
