For Detroit Pistons fans, the end of the Troy Weaver era comes as a relief. Weaver’s disastrous tenure as the Pistons’ GM drew comparisons to the infamous reign of Matt Millen, the former NFL linebacker and TV broadcaster who managed the Detroit Lions from 2001 to 2008, resulting in the worst eight-year record in modern NFL history (31–84).

In four disappointing seasons, Weaver compiled a dismal record of 74-244 (.233), the eighth-worst in NBA history according to Basketball Reference. It was unimaginable four years ago that Weaver would have a worse winning percentage than Millen. Upon hearing the news of Weaver’s departure, fans celebrated and reflected on the Pistons’ irrelevance over the past four years.

Weaver’s downfall was marked by poor draft choices, an overemphasis on reclamation projects, and assembling a mismatched team. Unlike Millen, who wasn’t retained in any capacity when he was fired in 2008, Weaver’s departure was met with a similar sense of finality.

Trajan Langdon officially hired

The Pistons have appointed Trajan Langdon as the new President of Basketball Operations, announcing him as the latest leader of their front office.

“It’s an honor for me to join the Detroit Pistons, and I’m excited for the opportunity,” Langdon stated. “I have spent considerable time with Tom (Gores) over the past few weeks and fully align with his expectations for the challenge ahead. The work starts immediately, and I appreciate Tom giving me the chance to build on the existing foundation and help this team compete at the highest level. This franchise has a great tradition and history, and I’m eager to build on that for everyone associated with the organization and the passionate sports fans of Detroit.”
