NORMAN, OK — The Oklahoma Sooners softball team is back in familiar territory, returning to the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) under the experienced guidance of head coach Patty Gasso. As the Sooners prepare for another run at the national championship, Gasso took some time to reflect on the journey and what it means to be back on the sport’s biggest stage.

Gasso, who has been at the helm of the OU softball program since 1995, has led the team to numerous WCWS appearances and several national titles. This season, however, holds a special significance.

“Every journey to the World Series is unique, and this year is no different,” Gasso said. “The resilience and determination this team has shown, especially through some challenging moments, have been truly remarkable. To see them come together and earn their place in the World Series again is incredibly rewarding.”

The Sooners’ path to the WCWS has been paved with hard-fought victories and standout performances. Gasso highlighted the contributions of both veteran players and emerging stars, emphasizing the team’s depth and unity.

“Our seniors have been phenomenal leaders, setting the tone with their work ethic and passion,” she noted. “At the same time, our younger players have stepped up in big moments, showing that the future of OU softball is very bright. It’s been a total team effort.”

Gasso also praised the support from the OU community and fans, acknowledging their role in the team’s success. “The energy and encouragement we receive from our fans, both at home and on the road, is unmatched. It fuels our players and creates an incredible atmosphere. We’re grateful for their unwavering support.”

As the Sooners gear up for their first game in the WCWS, Gasso remains focused on the task at hand. “We’re excited to be here, but we know the competition will be tough. Our goal is to stay grounded, play our game, and take it one pitch at a time. If we do that, I believe we have a great shot at achieving something special.”

Reflecting on her storied career, Gasso expressed a deep appreciation for the opportunity to lead such a talented group. “I feel blessed to coach these young women and be part of their journey. Each season brings its own set of challenges and triumphs, and it’s an honor to guide them through it all.”

With Patty Gasso at the helm, the Oklahoma Sooners are poised for another memorable run in the Women’s College World Series, carrying with them the hopes and support of their dedicated fan base.
