The Kansas City Royals were defeated by the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night, 8-5, at Progressive Field. This loss was significant for the Royals, who are trailing Cleveland in the American League Central. Despite leading 5-0 at one point, they couldn’t maintain their advantage and now hold a 36-26 record, 5.0 games behind Cleveland.

However, Royals’ star Bobby Witt Jr. had an outstanding night, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI. He hit a home run and two doubles, marking a personal milestone.

One of baseball’s top players, Witt Jr. boasts a .319 average this season with a .936 OPS. He has 11 home runs, 46 RBI, and 17 stolen bases. Since his debut in 2022, Witt Jr. has a career batting average of .274 with 61 home runs and 222 RBI. He has 96 stolen bases and is likely to reach 100 by the end of June. Additionally, he appears set to make his first American League All-Star Game appearance.

The Royals and Guardians will face off again on Wednesday night at 6:40 p.m. ET. Brady Singer will pitch for Kansas City, entering the game with a 4-2 record and a 2.63 ERA, while Nick Sandlin will pitch for Cleveland with a 4-0 record and a 2.77 ERA, likely serving as an opener.
