CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Property records in Mecklenburg County reveal that Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball has become the new owner of the Uptown condo previously owned by ex-Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

Ball’s company, MB1 Enterprises, purchased the 3,300-square-foot condo at 139 South Tryon Street for $2.47 million on May 15. The property was managed by Newton’s Agape Property Management Group LLC, headed by Cam Newton’s father, Cecil Newton. The condo is located in the exclusive Trust building, where former Hornets owner Michael Jordan once resided.

The Charlotte Business Journal first reported the news of the sale, also noting that LaMelo Ball has been leasing the condo from Cam Newton since 2020. County records indicate Newton bought the property for $2.1 million in 2015. Atlanta-based realtor Pierre Reeves told the Journal that Ball had a “handshake agreement” to purchase the condo from Newton when ready.

Last summer, Ball signed a five-year contract that keeps him in Charlotte through the 2028-29 season. If Ball makes an All-NBA team during this period, his total earnings could reach $260 million; otherwise, the deal is reportedly worth $203 million.

Since being drafted No. 3 overall in 2020, Ball has been a key player for the Hornets. He won Rookie of the Year in his first season but has been hampered by injuries since. Last season, he played in only 22 games due to a right ankle injury, participating in just 58 out of a possible 164 games over the past two years.
