Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin had an amusing suggestion for the Tennessee Vols on Friday.
Earlier this week, the NCAA approved the use of on-field sponsorship logos, which many find regrettable. According to ESPN, the NCAA will allow commercial sponsor advertisements on football fields for regular-season games across all three divisions starting this season. The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved the Football Rules Committee’s recommendation, permitting corporate advertisements in three spots: one centered on the 50-yard line and up to two smaller advertisements elsewhere. These can be displayed on a game-by-game basis or for the entire season.
Kiffin, who coached at Tennessee in 2009, suggested Neyland Stadium use a French’s Mustard logo. This references the infamous incident during the 2021 game between Tennessee and Ole Miss when a bottle of French’s Mustard was thrown onto the field by fans protesting officiating calls.
Hopefully, Neyland Stadium will remain logo-free, but if Tennessee’s leadership opts for a sponsorship, French’s Mustard would be a fitting choice.
