Marlins pitcher Ryan Weathers exits start due to finger soreness
MIAMI (AP) — Miami Marlins left-hander Ryan Weathers left his start against the Cleveland Guardians in the third inning on Friday due to soreness in his left index finger.
Weathers’ final pitch was hit for a home run by Guardians rookie Brayan Rocchio, giving Cleveland a 2-0 lead with Rocchio’s first career homer.
Miami manager Skip Schumaker, pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr., and a team trainer quickly came out of the dugout to check on Weathers after Rocchio rounded the bases. Weathers exited the game after pitching 2 1/3 innings.
The 24-year-old Weathers, who was acquired from San Diego at the trade deadline last season, had pitched at least six innings and allowed 11 runs in his previous six starts.
