The Milwaukee Bucks face the challenge of operating as a second-tier luxury tax team this offseason. With limited resources and constraints, their ability to acquire quality players is restricted. However, one potential target for them is Ayo Dosunmu of the Chicago Bulls.

Dosunmu, who has quietly progressed since being drafted in 2021, has seen his scoring average rise from 8.8 to 12.2 points per game over three NBA seasons. With an increased role, his performance could further improve. Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale has proposed a trade scenario that could bring Dosunmu to the Bucks, with Milwaukee receiving Dosunmu in exchange for Pat Connaughton and the No. 23 pick.

Favale highlights Dosunmu’s development as a shooter and driver, but emphasizes his defensive prowess, which could greatly benefit the Bucks. Dosunmu’s contract, with two team-controlled years remaining totaling $14.5 million, adds to his appeal.

However, Favale acknowledges the challenge of completing such a trade, noting that Chicago may desire more than just a late first-round pick and may be hesitant to take on Connaughton’s $18.8 million owed over the next two years.

Dosunmu’s emergence as a player has been notable, particularly in the latter half of the season where he showcased impressive scoring efficiency. Forbes’ Morgan Stig Jensen further underscores Dosunmu’s value and suggests that the Bulls may need to decide whether to extend him or explore trade options.

The Bulls’ roster dynamics could also influence Dosunmu’s future, especially with the potential return of Lonzo Ball and Zach LaVine’s recovery from injury, which might impact Dosunmu’s playing time. If Dosunmu’s role diminishes, it could prompt consideration of a trade.

For the Bucks, Dosunmu represents a valuable addition due to his two-way capabilities. If he becomes available, they should seize the opportunity to acquire him.
