Ex-Volunteers offensive lineman Gerald Mincey is still engaged in a back-and-forth with fans of Tennessee.

After transferring to Kentucky earlier this month, former Tennessee Volunteers offensive lineman Gerald Mincey has encountered some friction with the UT fan base. Mincey, who initially declared his return to Tennessee for the 2024 season before entering the transfer portal, engaged in exchanges with Vols fans a couple of weeks ago due to critical tweets directed at him.

Expressing his dismay, Mincey responded to negative comments with a tweet stating, “Really gave my all to Tennessee reading all these negative comments hurts man not gonna lie.”

Additionally, Mincey hinted at future confrontations by posting “November 2” on social media, referencing Kentucky’s upcoming visit to Knoxville next fall.

The exchange persisted this week when a Tennessee fan tweeted a picture of Vols standout edge rusher James Pearce at Mincey, alluding to the upcoming challenge Mincey will face at Neyland Stadium on November 2.

In response, Mincey replied with a pair of laughing emojis.

Mincey has been a significant contributor for the Vols in recent seasons, but he made the decision to conclude his collegiate career elsewhere, reflecting the current landscape of college football. It seems that if fans are willing to embrace transfers from other teams, they should also be willing to accept when players opt to depart. For certain individuals, their allegiance lies with playing for the T, while for others, it’s primarily a business decision.

Incidentally, Mincey is going to face a formidable challenge when he squares off against Pearce, who is anticipated to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
