The Tennessee Titans significantly bolstered their wide receiver corps in free agency with the acquisition of Calvin Ridley. Adding to the appeal of the deal was the fact that it also weakened a key division rival.

Initially expected to re-sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ridley ended up joining the Titans after a last-minute move by Tennessee.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan acknowledged on Adam Schefter’s podcast that snatching Ridley from the Jaguars made the signing “a little sweeter.”

“I believe in everything he stands for; he’s a consummate professional with exceptional talent,” Callahan commented. “He’s among the best route-runners I’ve seen, incredibly quick, fast, and explosive. Plus, he brings a great personality to the team.

“Having him here and taking him away from a division rival adds a bit of extra satisfaction. I’m thrilled to have Calvin, and I’m confident he’ll make a significant impact for us.”

While Jacksonville lost Ridley, they did acquire Gave Davis and drafted Brian Thomas Jr., although their ability to replace the veteran’s production in their first season remains to be seen.
