Kentucky’s new head basketball coach, Mark Pope, has been pursuing Kerr Kriisa for some time and has now successfully recruited the talented guard to join the Wildcats.
Kriisa spent three years at Arizona before transferring to West Virginia last season. He will now complete his college basketball career at Kentucky.
Kriisa embodies the fearless mentality that Coach Pope admires, demonstrated by his infamous trash-talking with NBA star Luka Doncic.
Last season at WVU, Kriisa achieved career-high averages of 11 points per game, along with 2.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists. His three-point shooting percentage also reached a career-high at 42.4%.
Regarding his decision to play for Coach Pope at Kentucky, Kriisa shared on BBN Tonight, “I’ve known Pope for a while; he’s been recruiting me since he still had hair. When he called this time, our conversation lasted about two and a half minutes. We didn’t discuss my role or minutes. It was just mutual understanding—let’s get it done.”
Coach Pope appears to have a strong relationship with Kriisa and is fostering a positive culture within the Kentucky basketball program. Kriisa is expected to be the first guard off the bench, contributing significantly to scoring and playmaking when the starters rest.
