On Friday, OU softball made its first addition from the transfer portal. The Sooners secured a commitment from North Carolina catcher Isabela Emerling, addressing a key need for experience following Kinzie Hansen’s eligibility expiration.

Emerling, who started 43 games this season as a redshirt sophomore, led the Tar Heels in several categories, including home runs (14), OPS (1.103), slugging percentage (.685), RBIs (53), and total bases (89).

Originally from Martinez, California, Emerling is also capable of playing infield and has two seasons of eligibility left.

The Sooners faced a major gap at catcher following the departures of both Hansen and Riley Ludlam.

Hansen had served as the Sooners’ main catcher since joining the team in 2020, starting in 222 games over that period.

Throughout her career, Hansen maintained a .390 batting average, hitting 60 home runs and driving in 219 runs.
